Bus Driver Union Votes to Strike Cap Metro!

Howdy Comrades!

The Amalgamated Transit Union workers voted overwhelmingly to reject the contract proposed by Startrans, the agency contracted by Cap Metro to deal with

the bus drivers.  We do not know when the strike will take place at this time.  STS drivers indicated that Union drivers will assist passengers with crucial

trips throughout the duration of the strike.  Metro staff reported that when the strike occurs, bus schedules will be sharply curtailed and indicated that

STS trips will be limited to service on Monday through Friday only, no weekend service.  I suggest both bus users and STS users make arrangements to stock

up on important essentials or make alternative transportation arrangements.  I hope to have the press releases from both the Union and Metro posted within

24 hours.  Check Newsline for details about the strike because you may get the information faster.

Regards,

Malcolm

Hey, who the hell is Malcolm? Are you related to Chairman Mal or an imposter? I told you the bus drivers planned to strike, but certain leaders in the BPP won't listen. Don't buy the bullshit Cap Metro says about the Union getting the best deal in Texas. Sure, the contract calls for raises but screws up health care for the drivers. Who cares if you get a few extra bucks in your paycheck if you go broke when you get sick!

This strike is an ill-concieved idea, which will only evaporate the increased ridership.

It comes on the heels of a driver having filed a false police report. This same driver had a spotty record of work attendance.

I feel the transit agency needs to improve on the clock driver behavior before any of those workers dare ask for a raise.

We have a difference of opinion between Blind Salamander and Robin. I'd like to watch them duke it out. Don't assume Robin will win the fight. He may be formidable, but I heard a rumor that Blind Salamander may be a Teamster from Houston. Those Teamsters don’t screw around. I heard one Teamster at an NFB convention threaten to take the Houston Lighthouse "apart brick by brick" if management failed to meet Union demands!
